Learning and development
Many kinds of training and learning are available here at the council to build your skills and help you develop as an individual and a professional.
Training for new starters
If you’ve just started at the council, you’ll need to carry out some specific training and learning.
Your manager will plan a series of activities to get you quickly up to speed in your new role, and will explain what you’ll need to do in your first weeks. They will also assign you an ‘induction buddy’ – someone you can ask any questions you have.
- Go the e-Learning portal and click on ’New Starter’.
- Read through the information on how to get started.
- Click on ‘Mandatory Training’ to see the learning modules you must do.
For some roles, you will need to be trained on how to use specialist systems. For new joiners in Children's Social Care and where relevant to your role, click here to request training on LCS and EHM.

The Learning Hub is the place where you can access all of our online learning, video content and face-to-face training.

Programmes are available in a diverse range of professions and skill areas here at the council, from energy technician to business administration apprenticeships. - Existing employees can develop their professional or management skills with Upskilling apprenticeships. These are nationally recognised work based programmes and lead to accredited professional qualifications. Find out more about Upskilling apprenticeships
Coaching
Coaching support is available to all employees. It's a great way of helping you to reach personal development goals, develop new skills, overcome issues or take on new challenges. Complete the Find a Coach Form to register your interest.
