Everyone should get a P45 from their last employer when they stop working for them. Your P45 is a record of all your pay and tax taken so far in the current year.
A P45 shows your:
- Tax code and Pay As You Earn (PAYE) reference number
- National Insurance number
- Date you left employment
- Earnings and tax taken away during the year
We need your P45 details so we can put you on the right tax code. Keep part 1A of your P45 safe for your own records. Part 2 and Part 3 should be posted or emailed to the HR service desk at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Make sure you keep your original P45 safe, as you won’t be able to get another copy. It is proof of your income from the start to the end of your employment.
